Mumbai Indians earned a crucial win against Royal Challengers Bangalore to move into fourth spot in the Indian Prmier League standings on Wednesday night.

Winning the toss and electing to bowl, Mumbai restricted Bangalore to 151 for 4 -- RCB's lowest in the tournament -- and then went onto achieve their target with eight balls remaining and six wickets in the bag.

Chris Jordan gave four singles but his last two balls were cleanly hit for sixes by Jos Buttler. MI 142-4, 18 overs.

Watson goes for 18 runs and Mumbai inch closer. MI 126-4, 17 overs.

Another brilliant catch and this time it is AB de Villiers at long on to dismiss Rayudu. MI 98-4.

Bangalore innings

A half century by KL Rahul, his fourth, and a quickfire 25 from 13 balls by Sachin Baby got Royal Challengers Bangalore to a total of 151 for 4 against Mumbai Indians at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Wednesday.

Rahul remained unbeaten on 68 from 53 balls (4x6, 3x4) and Baby struck two fours and two sixes. However despite their efforts this was RCB's lowest total in this edition of the Indian Premier League.

Bumrah pulls things back for Mumbai conceding only 7 runs. RCB 138-4, 19 overs.

Expensive over (22 runs) from Pollard as Rahul (1 six) and later Sachin Baby (2 sixes and a four) take him to the cleaners. RCB 131-4, 18 overs.

Rahul is holding one end up for Bangalore with another half century. RCB 108-4, 17 overs.

Just when Watson was looking dangerous after clobbering Bumrah for a six he tried a cheeky single the next ball but Rohit was too quick for him. RCB 101-4, 16 overs.

Shane Watson run out 15 (14b 1x4 1x6)

There's a good battle going on between Lokesh and McClenaghan. Struck on the wrist by the New Zealander, Rahul spanks him for a six and a four. RCB 91-3, 15 overs.

Krunal Pandya finishes an excellent spell of 4-0-15-1. RCB 69-3, 13 overs.

De Viliiers runs out of luck this time. Trying to pull Pandya over miid-wicket he skies it to Rayudu. RCB 62-3, 11 overs.

DROPPED: Harbhajan, hit for a six by De Villiers off his first ball, misses a caught and bowled chance off the same batsman in the next delivery. RCB 60-2, 10 overs

While everyone's expecting De Villiers to take on the Mumbai bowlers it is Rahul who has taken charge spanking Bumrah for s a six and a four.

Mumbai have maintained a tight leash on Bangalore. Even De Villiers is finding it tough to cut loose. RCB 37-2, 8 overs.

Krunal Pandya bowls a tidy over as RCB struggle at 19-2 in 5 overs.

Gayle flops yet again, trying to hit Southee out of the ground but sends it high and into the safe hands of Rohit Sharma. RCB 17-2, 4 overs.

Chris Gayle c Sharma b Southee 5 (6b 1x4 0x6)

The Bangalore crowd must be disappointed to see the back of their skipper Kohli who tried to glide McCleneghan through slips only to find Harbhajan at widish slip, RCB 11-1, 2 overs.

Virat Kohli c Harbhajan Singh b McClenaghan 7 (7b 0x4 1x6)

Kohli plays three dot balls off Southee and then charges down and hits him over cover for a six. RCB 8-0, 1 over.

There is a loud roar in the Chinnaswamy Stadium as Virat Kohli names Chris Gayle in the squad. The West Indian comes in for Travis Head. Another change made by RCB is Sreenath Arvind replacing Iqbal Abdulla.

For Mumbai, Nitish Rana will make his IPL debut as Hardik Pandya is left out in this crunch game where both teams need to win to stay in the hunt for the top four placing.
