500 basketball players for Berry Hills IBS League

Nearly 500 basketball players from different countries representing various clubs and institutions in the UAE will participate in a two-month long basketball tournament which began on April 17.

The 11th edition of Berry Hills Indian Basketball League Tournament will be held at the Salah Al Deen Indoor Sports Hall, near Century Mall, Dubai.

Out of 34 teams that will take part in the tournament conducted on league and knock out basis, there are nine teams in the men’s category and four teams in the women's division, officials of Indian Basketball Society said.

There are eight teams in the Under 19 Inter School Boys division, eight teams in the under 13 division and five teams in the Under 13 girls division, they said.

A total of 60 matches will be conducted during the two-month period.

Around 500 players will be representing various clubs and institutions. Men's team players are current and former Indian national, state and university level players who are employed in the UAE.

The nine teams taking part in the Men's division are Nucaf Beatrice, Blue Rhine Eagles, Hustlers and City5s in Pool A and Imperial Knights, ANF All Stars, Hoopers, Pond Parkers and Titans in Pool B.

The four teams in the women's division are Delhi Private School, Sharjah, DPS Dubai, Earnest Eagles and Warriors.

The Under 19 Boys Inters-chool Division includes Our Own Sharjah, Our Own Warqa, DPS Sharjah, NIM Dubai, ENS  Sharjah, Millennium Dubai and DPS Dubai.

The Under 13 Inter-school division includes DPS Dubai, ENS Sharjah, DPS Sharjah, NIMS Sharjah, Gulf Indian, St Marys Dubai, Our Own Warqa, the Model School, Abu Dhabi.

Under 13 girls division teams are DPS Sharjah, Our Own Dubai, DPS Dubai, Emirates National Sharjah and St Mary’s School, Dubai.

Trophies, individual prizes and certificates will be  given to the first, second and third placed teams.

Special prizes - Most Valuable Player, Most Promising Player, Top Scorer, Best Defensive Player, Best Post Player - will also be awarded to all categories, the officials of Indian Basketball Association, affiliated to the Indian Business and Professional Council, said.

Men's division will compete for the Berry Hills Trophy, the title sponsor of the tournament.

The women's division and under 13 girls will play for the KEF Company Trophy, the co-sponsors of the tournament.

Under 19 Inter School Boys Division and Under 13 Boys Division will be playing for Dr Sunny Medical Center-NMC Group Trophy, co-sponsors of the Basketball annual tournament.
