Afghanistan Eagles soar in Sharjah Sixes

F Niazi slammed an unbeaten 34 as Afghanistan Eagles edged MTR Eagles by three wickets in the inaugural Grand Midwest Sharjah Sixes, organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Tuesday night.

The visiting Afghanistan team showed their prowess from the word go chasing a target of 61 to win.

Fazal Zazai provided the Afghan team a quick start smashing 11 runs and also sharing an important 23-run for the opening wicket with Noorul Haq (8).

Two quick wickets were the only moments MTR Eagles could relish before Niazi arrived to finish of the match in style. His innings was studded with three sixes and two boundaries as Afghanistan Eagles scored 62 for two in 4.3 overs.

Earlier, batting first, MTR Eagles were given a strong start with opener Seaknder scoring an unbeaten 30 consisting of four boundaries and one six. Khalid supported him scoring nine as MTR Eagles reached a challenging 60 for one in five overs.

In another match, Pakistan cricketer Abdul Razzak’s amazing knock went in vain as GMW Royal lost to Peach Club Lahore by five wickets.

GMW Royal posted a brilliant 81 for two in five overs thanks to a quickfire 34 not out from Razzak. His innings was studded with four sixes. Awais Zia also chipped in with an unbeaten 21.

Peach Club Lahore took off immediately during their chase with opener Asim Saeed scoring an unbeaten 35 with the help of five sixes while Hussain Talat smashed 28 not out as Peach Club Lahore surpassed the target in four overs.

GMW Royal also lost their second match to Alubond Panthers by four wickets while GMW Blues provided some solace defeating Young Talent CC by a comfortable five wickets. Haji Irfan and Afzal were the star performers scoring an identical 28. 

In the other matches, VIBHS handed Young Talent CC a 62-run win while a late 22 from P Achuthan helped Chanaayka Kerala 6s score a close one-wicket victory over Radio Mirchi.
