Armchair Boys comprising mostly sports journalists in the UAE produced a spirited team effort to defeat Dubai Cricket Council (DCC) 40’s club by 38 runs in a friendly match played at The Sevens Cricket Oval.

Invited to take first lease of the wicket by DCC, the Armchair Boys rattled up a challenging total of 154-5 thanks to a 50-run stand for the fourth wicket stand between Gopal Jasapara and Shyam Krishna.

Chasing, DCC innings failed to gather any momentum against the Armchair Boys attack to finish on 116 for eight.

Jasapara was adjudged man of the match for his 33-ball 47 which contained four hits to the ropes and his excellent spell of 3-1-11-1 which had the DCC veterans in knots.

AKS Satish and Joy Chakravarty gave the Armchair Boys a steady start putting on 28 runs before being separated.

Chakravarty was run out for 8 while skipper Satish cracked three boundaries in his 19 before being castled by the gentle left-arm spin of Freddy Sidhwa.

Arshad Abubakar also hit three boundaries in his 19 before Niranjan Chawla rattled his stumps as Armchair Boys slumped to 59-3.

Krishna (21) milked the DCC bowling in tandem with Jasapara to steer Armchair Boys into a good position.

After Shiva Pagarani trapped Shyam leg before, Jai Prasad V. Rai hit a 15-ball unbeaten 21 to boost their total.

Jasapara missed his half century by three runs, falling to veteran pacer CTK Nasir.

Armchair Boys struck early when DCC began their chase with left-arm pacer Shihab Majeed snaring Sidhwa who popped a return catch.

DCC found the pace of Jai Prasad too hot to handle with Nalin Khaitan being trapped leg before for 10  while Raj Gopal Sukumar for castled for 1.

Jasapara then trapped Nasir leg before for 12 before Amandeep Singh was brillilantly stumped by Sunil Vaidya off Amit Passela for 16.

Ranjeev Chavan top-scored with 24 runs before Rizvi had him bowled.

Passela got the wicket of Niranjan to finish with two for 16 while Jai Prasad claimed two for 11.

Pagarani along with DCC secretary Amin Farooq made a valiant last-ditch effort to reach the target.

Satish picked up the wicket of Pagarani to lead his team to an impressive victory.
