The 4th Dubai International Parachuting Championship will be the best-ever hosted by Dubai, a top official has said.

“At the outset I would like to convey our thanks to Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council. We would never be where we are without Sheikh Hamdan’s support,” said Yousef Al Hammadi, Deputy Chairman of the Organising Committee.

“The support given by Sheikh Hamdan has helped parachuting in the UAE, in the Gulf and Arab regions and the entire world and we are more than eager to ensure the success of this championship,” he added.

The 4th Dubai International Parachuting Championship will be held at Sky Dive Dubai on the edge of The Palm Jumeirah from November 27 to December 10.

“When we organised the World Parachuting Championship - Mondial Dubai 2012 last year, we thought we had reached our peak from the organisation point of view. But Sheikh Hamdan instructed us to strive even more and keep attracting attention to Dubai and keep our place on the world map in the world of parachuting as well,” Yousef Al Hammadi noted.

The organising committee has ear-marked $420,000 or more than Dh1.5 million as prize money for this championship.

The 4th Dubai International Parachuting Championship has already attracted 43 countries comprising of more than 1,500 jumpers.

The UAE squad will comprise of 37 jumpers who will participate in all categories of the championship. Other Arab nations who will be in the fray include teams from Qatar, Oman and Bahrain along with the normal contenders from Europe and North America.

“The UAE is the only country that will participate in all categories of the championship and this is quite an achievement,” Yousef Al Hammadi noted.

“This sport was established way back in 1951 and we now want to spread this sport to the Gulf and Arab level. During last year’s Mondial Dubai we witnessed the discipline of para skiing for the first time, so we are only too pleased to lend a helping hand,” he added.

Majid Al Bastaki, Head of the Media Committee related that the formal opening ceremony of the championship will be held at Meydan with Dubai Sports Channel beaming it live all across the world.

“Further details of the ceremony will be disclosed in the future. Dubai will continue to evolve and innovate and take the sport of parachuting further,” Majid Al Bastaki said.
