Dubai Stars Bodybuilding Championships offers prize money of Dh135,000

The inaugural Dubai Stars International Body Building and Powerlifting Championship organised by Big & Fit Sports Nutrition will be held on May 16 and 17.

This mega event which carries total prize money of Dh135,000 will be conducted under the supervision of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare, Dubai Sports Council, Emirates Bodybuilding Federation (EBBF) and Emirates Powerlifting Committee.

The guest of honour during the Championship will be Sheikh Obaid Suhail Al Maktoum.

Oriental pop star Dominique Hourani will also be a star attraction at the event.

The Championship will be conducted in three categories: Formal Body building, Classic Body Building and Bench Press.

It is open to all nationals except for IFBB (International Body Building Federation) athletes who have an international professional validated card.

Registration and weigh-in will take place on Friday May 16 at Copthorne Hotel, Deira, Dubai.

The competition will be held on Saturday May 17 at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium, Indian High School in Dubai.

Pre-registration has commenced with the organisers having created a dedicated website for the event www.dubai-star.com.

"This is the first time a website has been created for a competition like this," said Competition Manager Issam.

"Those who register before the closing date of 15th May will get a discount of 10 per cent," he said.

"We have also managed to get hotel accommodation for participants at discounted prices," added Issam who said the prize money offered was one of the highest.

"It will be conducted as per IFBB rules and supervised by EBBF while international referees and judges from different countries have been invited to ensure a fair competition," said Issam.

A total of Dh90,000 has been allocated for Formal Bodybuilding with the first three winners getting Dh15,000, Dh10,000 and Dh5,000 respectively.

It will be held for weight categories 75kg, 85kg and upto 100kg.

Classic Bodybuilding, introduced in 2005 for men who prefer to develop a less muscular, yet athletic and aesthetically pleasing physique, carries total prize money of Dh30,000.

The Bench Press event which will be held in three weight categories (83kg, 93kg and up to 105kg) offers total prize money of Dh15,000.

The Dubai Stars Championship is expected to attract an audience of 2,500 with the programme for the day beginning at 9am with pre-judging competition.

The show will be open to the public from 7pm with a Fitness First dance show performed by professionals.

Representatives of the some of the biggest nutrition companies will be in attendance as Big & Fit Sports Nutrition and their agency nutrition brands Biotech USA, TREC, 14 SUPERIOR and QNT aim to utilise this opportunity to provide the best platform for bodybuilders to showcase their extra strong strength.

The competition is sponsored by Decathlon Sports, Fitness First, Iron Palace Gym and Qimia Star Nutrition from Iran.
