The veteran cricketers are back on a level playing field with the first ever inter-Council 40s tournament being held at The Sevens.

All four councils Abu Dhabi Cricket Club, Dubai Cricket Council (DCC), combined Sharjah Cricket Club and Ajman Cricket Councils have got together to give birth to a new veteran's league to keep 40-plus cricketers active.

To further spice up the league a wild card entry has been given to the Sindhi cricket club 40’s.

In this tournament each team will play the other twice on home and away basis where the host of the match will take care of the visiting team.

DCC 40s hosted the Sindhis in the opening match where Gopal Jasapara starred in Dubai's 41-run win with a five-wicket haul.

Put into bat first, DCC posted 168-8 in 25 overs and then restricted Sindhis to 128-9.

Former UAE star Vijay Mehra (40) and Abbas Khan (42) laid the foundation for DCC's matchwinning total with a partnership of 57 runs for the second wicket.

Ambey Parwatkar (13), CTK Nasir (13), Brij Bhalla (12) and Mukund Srinivas (14) also chipped in.

Jasapara made 18 off only six balls.

For Sindhis, Neeraj Ramanamurthy 2-18 and Vinay Mehra 2-21 bowled well.

Ranjeeth Chavan and Sujit Saliyan also bagged a wicket apiece.

Sindhis began the chase cautiously with openers Sujit Salian (16) and Paresh Amarnani (25) seeing through the medium pacers.

But the introduction of spin by DCC skipper Shoeb Mujlani saw a dramatic change to the proceedings.

Jaspara had a dream spell of 5-0-29-5 and ran through the Sindhi innings while Ambey Parwatkar claimed 2-12.

Brij Bhalla and Shiva Pagarani picked up a wicket each to restrict Sindhis.

Neeraj Ramanamurthy (26), Lucky Abbas (16), Sunil Raheja (18), Ranjeet Chavan (15 not out) were the others scorers for Sindhis.

Jaspara was declared man of the match.
