Emirati youth bag record 376 medals in World Jiu-Jitsu Children’s Cup

UAE won an incredible 376 medals over three days of competition at the World Jiu-Jitsu Children’s Cup, held under the Patronage of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces at at IPIC Arena at Zayed Sports City.

Emirati youth smashed last year’s medal haul of 259 reinforcing the hosts as the world capital of Jiu-Jitsu on Wednesday.

Ranging in age from 15 to 17 years, the final day of youth competition saw 111 teams in action, many of them from local schools.

The athletes were representing their various countries with a total of 31 different nationalities battling across 49 different divisions with white, blue orange and green belts taking to the mats.

The winners received their medals from Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, vice-president of the UAE Education Council, Joseph Batran, Jiu-Jitsu Federation Board Member, Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Executive Director of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, Ahmed Jumaa Al Qubaisi, Senior Marketing Director, and Ahmed Marzouki, Sports Healthcare Professional.

Speaking on the final day of the event, Abdulmunam Al Hashemi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and President of the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, said: “Today marks the end of an incredible three days of outstanding entertainment on and off the mat, showcasing the very best of Abu Dhabi. This year’s World Jiu-Jitsu Children’s Cup has set a new standard for future years with an extra day of competition, with more competitors taking part, more fans can experience the excitement and we’ve been able to welcome more players from across the world."

Beyond world-class Jiu-Jitsu action, this year’s event included tailored workshops that highlighted the importance of a healthy body on and off the mat.

On Monday Ahmad Al Bloushi, Sarah Al Snani and Ziad Al Harathi held a workshop on coping with special needs while an anti-doping workshop with Dr. Ahmed Al Hashimi took place on Tuesday.

The high calibre activities for the 2015 event also include: an expanded fan experience that includes sponsor activities at the enhanced IPIC Fan Zone, family events, interactive stands and a raffle draw where all visitors will have the chance to win exciting prizes with the likes of a Land Rover Discovery Sport and Jaguar XF.

The Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship is now in its seventh year, held in the world capital of Jiu-Jitsu – Abu Dhabi.

The free to attend Championship is now open to the public with the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship at the IPIC Arena, Zayed Sports City.
