India, Pakistan fighters add spice to Dubai Women's Arab Boxing championship

The first ever Dubai Women's Arab Boxing Championship will take place at Dubai Tennis Stadium at Aviation Club on Friday December 19.

Organised by the International Arab Boxing Federation (FIBA) in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council, it is the first even Arab Boxing competition held for women only in this region.

Gates open at 6pm with the first of the nine-bout card is scheduled to begin at 7pm.

Among the 18 combatants representing 18 countries, is an 14 year-old amateur from the host country UAE Maitha Abullah Hassan Al Niyadi.

The student of Al Dana School, Abu Dhabi will face Dubai-based Indian pugilist Tarika Shivkumar in the flyweight (51kgs) category.

"I'm excited and have trained hard for this fight," said Maitha who has been the elder sister of Tarika twice previously in her brief career.

Hela Ben Hosine of Tunisia and Lena Al Fayyad will vie for the Arab Championships in the Light weight (63kg) category.

Samira Hamham of Morocco will be one of the star attractions in the six world championships bouts.

She will face Malenia Marija of Croatia in the Feather weight (57kgs) weight class.

Maria Rodriguez of Spain will face Farah Diab of Tunisia in the lightweight (63kg) class.

Two fighters from south Asian origin but born in Holland will also add spice to the competition.

Indian Erna Mannoesingh who has won 21 bouts by knockout in her career feature in the Light weight (60kg) weight.

Another is Pakistani Wandana 'Priya' Mohunlal also from Holland who will challenge world champion Bayrak Tugba of Netherland in the 68kgs weight class.
