Lokhandhwala returns to lead Sharjah Veterans to win over Awali Bahrain

Sharjah Cricket Council Veterans led by Mohamed Lokhandwala produced a superb team effort to ease past the visiting Awali Club Bahrain by five wickets with four balls to spare in a 25-over game under lights at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Shiva Pagarani starred with the ball claiming four for 19 to restrict Awali to 132 for nine.

Sharjah Veterans made 134-5 in 24.2 overs with Irfan Ansari (31 retired) being their top scorer.

Skipper Deepak Nair and Ahmed Ismail gave Awali a good start putting on 16 runs but they were rocked by Balwinder Singh who picked up both the openers.

One drop Sanjay Rathod then took the attack to the SCC Veterans and did well to make a sparkling 27 in 26 balls hitting four boundaries to top score for the visitors.

Pagarani and Ansari then stole the show with incisive bowling sharing six wickets while wicket-keeper Zulfiqar did a commendable job behind the sticks to restrict the visitors.

SCC Veterans had a superb start as openers Adil Mirza (16) and Presley Polonowita (26) put on 44 runs.

Vijay Mehra then further consolidated with an unbeaten 17 while Ansari carried his good form smashing a quick 31, before both were asked to retire.

SCC Veterans then lost three quick wickets as Vishal, Harish and Satish Kumar picked up a wicket each to put SCC Veterans in a spot of bother but Zulfiqar and Balwinder saw the home side through with four balls to spare.

After the match, Shahji Shahtaj presented Hemant the Awali Secretary with a lovely Falcon momento while the Best All-rounders award went to Irfan Ansari, and the Best Bowlers award was presented to Shiva Pagarani. The Best Player from the visitors side was won by Sanjay Rathod for his knock of 27 runs.
