Youth will take on experience in the international paddle tennis finals of the Nad Al Sheba 2014 Sports Tournament taking place at the NAS Sports Complex.

The teenage pairing of Martin De Nenno and Franco Stupackzuk battled over three sets to defeat the experienced Herman Auguste and Mariano Lasaigues and earn the right to meet the Brazilian coach-student duo of Gervasio Del Bono and Julio Julianoti in the final.

De Nenno, 17 and his partner Stupackzuk, 18 took more than two hours to register a 6-1, 6-7 (2), 6-4 win over the world stars Auguste and Lasaigues of Argentina, while Del Bono and Julianoti defeated Andoni Bardasco and Gonzalo Rubio 6-4, 7-5 to secure their places in the final.

“I dedicate this win to my son who has been very ill in hospital back home in Brazil,” Del Bono said after an exhausting encounter on Court No.2.

“It will be a huge challenge to play against a young pair like Martin and Franco. We are in the final and that will be a different game altogether,” he added.

Earlier Omar Behroozian, the UAE’s top tennis player combined with Abdul Rehman Al Janahi to defeat Mohammed Al Janahi and Fares Al Janahi to bag the UAE paddle tennis crown.

Behroozian and Al Janahi won 6-3, 6-3 over a much younger pairing in the final.

“This is the first time ever that I have tried my hand at paddle tennis and it has resulted in my first title. Tennis will always be my first love while paddle tennis can be a sort of hobby sport,” Behroozian said.

“Watching all these professionals here has been a fruitful experience as we get to pick up some tips from them and improve our game as well,” added the UAE Davis Cup player.

Meanwhile, Fohood Zabeel were the biggest winners on the night in the quarter-finals of the futsal competition with a 5-0 mauling of Grinta.
Led by their Portuguese star Ricardinho, Fohood Zabeel scored at will and come out as one of the main contenders for the title this year.

In the other quarter-finals, Al Markaj fought back from trailing through most of the match to win 3-2 against Al Tofan, Al Jokar beat XCAT 2-1 and Fohood Jumeirah entered the last four with a 2-1 win over Storm.

The NAS 2014 Sports Tournament is sponsored by Emirates, Dubai Duty Free, Meydan, Al Tayer Motors, Al Naboodah and Arabian Automobiles Al Rostamani.
