The forum will be held for the first time in the Middle East on April 23 and 24 under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council (DSC).

The event is being organised by the DSC in collaboration with Peace and Sport International under the slogan – ‘Together sport … build sustainable peace’, and is expected to witness high-level participation by decision-makers, sports personalities, and political and community figureheads from abroad and here.

The press conference on Monday was held in the presence of Khalid Ali bin Zayed, vice-president of the Organising Committee of the Forum Chairman of the Executive Committee; Mona Bousamra director, DPC; Munira who is responsible for events associated with the Forum; and Rashid Al Kamali general coordinator of the Forum.

Khalid Ali said: “The organisation of this event is part of the pivotal role played by the UAE in achieving and consolidating world peace under the guidance of The President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan; and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.”

Mona said: “The Dubai Press Club is committed to support all the sporting, social and educational initiatives that are taking place throughout Dubai based on our commitment to promote Dubai and confirm the emirate’s standing as a centre for excellence and vision in various fields and a host to organizations and international associations that are looking for success.”

“On this basis, the Dubai Press Club was sure to launch its own initiative in support of the Peace and Sport Forum, starting with the Night of Poetry on the 15th of April that is entitled 'Peace and Sport' in participation from the elite poets of the United Arab Emirates to add to the high hopes and expectations that come from hosting this world class event," she added.

During the conference, the support activity programme was announced and includes over 30 accompanying activities, four of which have already commenced.

Beginning with the Guinness Book of World Record Certification for the largest Button Mosaic in the world, after a mosaic depicting a peace dove was completed at Burj plaza using over one million buttons, a project spearheaded by Peace and Sport Peace Ambassador Fareed Lafta.

This was followed by an art competition on the topic of Peace through Sport which was also launched in public as well as private schools and will continue throughout April alongside other related workshops which will be taking place in various schools and universities around Dubai.

Meanwhile, a Table Tennis Tournament was held at Mirdif City Centre on March 29 in which over 150 players participated. This will be followed by an Expatriate Football Cup on April 5 at the Dubai Municipality Club.
