Phoenix Medicine, Multiplex International win

Sharjeel struck a superb half century and Qasim came up with a fine all-round performance as Phoenix Medicine defeated Seven Seas Strikers by four wickets in the KFC Emirates T20 Club Cricket League 2013 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The tournament is organised for the first time ever by the Emirates Cricket Board’s Domestic Cricket Development Committee (ECB-DCDC) and is presented by Grand Midwest Hotels.

Chasing a competitive 157 to win, Phoenix Medicine got off to a flying start with openers Adil and Sharjeel racing to a 71-run partnership. Adil departed scoring a 24-ball 27 including five boundaries.

Sharjeel continued to dominate at the other end but succumbed after scoring a well crafted 57 from 34 deliveries consisting of seven hits to the fence and two over it.

Phoenix Medicine slipped to 92 for four before Qasim and Saqlain took charge. Qasim faced 24 balls to knock of 29 runs including a boundary and a six, while Saqlain scored 22 from 20 deliveries as the duo shared a vital 48 runs for the fifth wicket.

Pervaiz smashed two sixes and a boundary to hit a 6-ball unbeaten 18 as Phoenix Medicine crossed the target in the final over.

Earlier, batting first, Gulam set a strong foundation for Seven Seas Strikers scoring a fine 72 from 54 balls studded with 10 boundaries.

Waheed (28, 28b, 2x4) and Tariq (16, 11b, 2x4) chipped in with useful contributions as Seven Seas piled on a healthy 156 for 7 in 20 overs.

For Phoenix Medicine, Asif Mumtaz claimed three wickets while Qasim bagged two.

In another match, Multiplex International eased past Danube Lions by five wickets.

Put in to bat first, Danube Lions were nicely placed despite losing an early wicket with Samiullah scoring a 35-ball 44 consisting of five boundaries and a six.

Andri further enhanced the score striking an 18-ball 22 with the help of two boundaries and a six while Adnan chipped in with a fine 16 as Danube Lions scored 130 for nine in 20 overs.

Altaf Ahmed took two wickets for Multiplex.

In reply, Multiplex lost a wicket before opening the account and then again in 10 runs. But Haroon (33, 33b, 4x4) and Ikhlaq (41, 47b, 2x4) put on a strong partnership to take Multiplex closer to the target.

Saad smashed a 7-ball 15 to ensure Multiplex got past the target with five balls to spare.
