Published

Cheyenne Woods guided her Emirates Global Aluminium-1 team to an emphatic three-shot victory in the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters Challenge Match (afternoon shot gun) at Emirates Golf Club on Tuesday.

Playing for the first time on the Majlis course, the 22-year-old American prodigy helped her team, which included Walid Al Attar, Maurizio La Noce and Greg Sproule, post an impressive score of 22 under as the team Omega-1, led by England’s Charley Hull, finished second on 19 under, one ahead of the Neocasa Interiors-2 team, which was spearheaded by Minjee Lee of Australia.

Shanshan Feng, who at world number five is the highest-ranked player in field, led her Omega-2 team to an equally convincing three-shot victory in the morning shot gun.

The team, which included Manoj Kapur, Michael Harradine and Rosemary Turlik as the three amateurs, carded an impressive score of 23-under, beating the Omega-8 team to second place with Golf Fore Autism settling for third on 18-under.

Mohamed Juma Buamaim, vice-chairman and CEO of golf in Dubai, Henry Burrus of Omega and Walid Al Attar of Emirates Global Aluminium presented the prizes.

Challenge Match

Dame Laura Davies and Maha Haddioui combined well to win the Omega Dubai Ladies Masters Challenge Match at the par-3 course of Emirates Golf Club on Monday.

The duo returned a two-under 25 to warm up ahead of the main competition which begins on Wednesday.

The all-Swedish team of Anna Nordqvist will join Sophie Gustafson and the pairing of Shanshan Feng (China) and Pornanong Phatlum (Thailand) finished joint second, one shot adrift.

The Davies-Haddioui team rattled off three birdies in a row from the fourth to take control of the proceeding. They bogeyed the last, but it only tended to narrow the margin of their victory.

“I have always liked watching Laura Davies. It was pretty exciting playing with her in a greensomes format,” said an elated Maha.

“I think this was the third time I have played with her. She is just an amazing playe and I have always looked up to her,” she added.
