Yogi Goan Cobras and Alubond Hyderabad Nawabs won their second matches in the Superstars T20 cricket tournament at the Fairground Oval of the Dubai Men’s College.

The tournament is conducted by Dubai Cricket Council (DCC) and supported by Web Channel with Yas Sports and Saaiba Restaurant as support sponsors.

Yogi, who lost their first match in Group D to Phoenix Medicines Karachi Kings, have come back into the tournament in a big way with back-to-back wins over first DCB Colombo Lions and later Interface Delhi Mughal on Friday.

Alubond too are riding a high wave after beating Calicut Tigers Supported by Du to make it two wins out of two, while Calicut have lost all their three matches in Group B.

Interface won the toss against Yogi and opted to bat but never really got going.

A lot was expected from Eklavya Dwivedi, who scored an unbeaten 95 against DCB Colombo Lions only a few days ago.

But with three wickets falling at quick intervals, Eklavya seemed to have felt the pressure and departed after scoring 16.

Jagrit Anand repaired the damage to some extent with a gritty 44 from 37 balls but by then Shahzad Manna (three wickets) and Aniket Desai (two) had done a good job of restricting them to 115 for 8.

Shahzad Manna then contributed 28 to bag the man of the match award for his all-round performance while Swapnil Patil clobbered 46 from 42 balls to see their team home.

In the other match, Alubond managed a decent total of 148 thanks mainly to Asghar Khan (37), Nasir Aziz (29) and Yaser Ajmel (24) even though Ahmed Shaukat did the early damage claiming three wickets.

Calicut who had to win to keep their hopes alive of qualifying for the next round, struggled from the word go.

With their top five batsmen back in the pavilion and with the scoreboard reading 5 for 30 it was left to Abdullah Hanif and Asif Nadeem to take up the challenge which they almost did.

Both put on a 70-run partnership but once Asif was out for 32 the tail failed to give Abdullah the necessary support and left him stranded on an unbeaten 49.
