It’s the kind of team Old Trafford has not seen often. In fact, rarely.

A Manchester United starting XI without any out an our wingers.

Instead, a combination of injuries and a must-win Newcastle game on Sunday forced Sir Alex Ferguson’s hand to pick a team that probably, is his best.

Wayne Rooney in the creative Scholes role, with Anderson and Cleverley in midfield.

Shinji Kagawa and Robin Van Persie could start at Newcastle and Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez would do just fine.

The key is the energy, pace and creativity coming out of midfield that Rooney, Anderson and Cleverley would bring.

Starting Alex Buttner and Rafael will, in a sense, take care of some of the wing attacks – given both are more prone to be going forward than sitting deep.

Reserve central defenders Scott Wootton and Michael Keane are in the mix.

But, no Captain Nemanja Vidic, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young.

United won at Cluj, what will we see at Newcastle?
