Dubai named the Best Sports City in Middle East

Dubai has acquired another international accolade in the sports sphere having been selected as the best sports city in the Middle East & Africa (in 2011).

The selection was stipulated in a report submitted by and elite group of experts and analysts – associated to International Sports Business Corporation (ISBC), which deals with studies and researches, related to international sport and investments in sports sector all over the world.

The report has been published in the June edition of Sports Business Magazine.

The corporation's staff – who are specialised in sport and sports economies – nominate several cities, carry out accurate perusal for nominated cities and proceed with preferential procedures.

It is the second international appreciation for Dubai in recent few months. Dubai was selected as the third world sports city and be rewarded 'the Excellence Certificate' in the International Sport Management Conference, convened in London in 2011.

ISBC commenced selecting distinctive sports cities since 2006 taking into account factors such as: level and quality of sports facilities, development and variety of transport means in the city, hosting details, governmental support to sports sector, security, impact of sports events on various social classes, efforts exerted by the city to arrange events, popularise games, practice and increase level of social awareness of the importance of sports activities, social response to sport, standard of living for the city's population, etc.

The corporation publishes a detailed press report to show winning cities' privileges and reasons of selection.

The report states that Singapore has been selected as the best sports city in Asia and Dubai as the best sports city in the Middle East and Africa. It also stated that London has been adjudged as the best world sports city, taking into consideration that the city makes intensive preparations to host the upcoming Olympic Games.

International sports federations and organisations have all appreciated the great efforts exerted by Dubai to host sports events and championships.

It is as part of preparatory procedures to host FINA World Swimming Championships 2010, Dubai Sports Council constructed one of the most spectacular sports complex in the world – 'Hamdan Bin Mohammed Sports Complex' – to stage the event.

The Council has also constructed swimming pool in each of Dubai sports clubs including a swimming pool with special specifications for Dubai Special Sports Club.

The city also arranges Dubai Pulse Program with increasing participation of all classes of society.  

Dubai has successfully hosted the Beach Soccer World Cup, Beach Soccer Continental Championship 2011 and Asian Qualifiers to Beach Soccer World Cup in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

The council has also exerted utmost efforts to popularise the practice of beach football by launching the Residential Districts Championship with the participation of 15 teams.

Dubai's agenda is full of sports championships and events which have left a positive impact on the sports sector.
