Guinomla leads Open category in Dubai bowling

Hashim Guinomla of the Philippines and Samantha Hannan were the leaders in the Open and Under-23 categories at the end of the third day of the 3rd Dubai International Open Bowling Tournament being held at the Dubai Bowling Centre at Al Mamzar.

The competition is being organised by the UAE Bowling Association with the support of the Dubai Sports Council.

Guinomla showed steady form to push himself at the top of the leaderboard in the Open category. His series of 669, 722 and 681 for a total pin-fall of 2,072 and an average of 230.22 was enough to hand him the lead ahead of Hussain Al Suwaidi and Hamad Mohammed Al Majidi.

Hussain Al Suwaidi rolled series of 642, 631 and the highest on the night of 738 on the night to push his way into second place, while Hamad Mohammed Al Majidi secured the third spot with series rolls of 635, 654 and 695.

In the Under-23 competition, it was Samantha Hannan all the way as she maintained her lead for the third day in a row. The player from Great Britain had three series of 617, 682 and 712 for a total pin-fall of 2011 and an average of 223.44 to keep her position at the top.

Abdullah Nabil Marzouk was in second while Ahmed Abdullah Al Mahri was in third with averages of 203.22 and 197.11 respectively.

The qualifying rounds of the competition will continue for another week with the second round of the Open competition featuring the top 26 finishers including two UAE players to be held on February 24.

There is a total prize fund of Dh300,000 for both categories besides the event being a ranking tournament on the Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) calendar towards World Ranking Masters Final organised by the World Ten-Pin Bowling Association (WTPBA).

The tournament is sponsored by SuperPrice Rent A Car, Mars Digital Printing, French Bakery, Grand Service Station, La Marquise Coffee and Grand Capital.
