Hong Kong win inaugural Emirates Nations Cup

Hong Kong romped to a 37-3 win over Brazil after being contained in the first half to win the inaugural Emirates Airline Cup of Nations rugby tournament at The Sevens on Friday.

Kenya powered past battling hosts UAE 55-12 in the earlier match.

Hong Kong were restricted by to a 10-3 scoreline at the interval before running in five unanswered tries to hog the limelight.

Kenya scored five tries to take a 29-0 lead half time.

But the hosts showed their determination to fight back early in the second half through an Ali Thompson try converted by John Fawls.

Kenya however retained the upper hand adding three more tries to their tally before UAE captain Dan Heal scored a consolation try.

“This has been a magnificent experience and we must thank Emirates (Airline) for their commitment to both domestic and international rugby,” said Wayne Marsters, UAE’s interim coach.

“The scoreboard may be interpreted differently however we have taken quite a lot away from this tournament.”

Marsters hoped to use this experience as a launch pad in preparation for the Asian Five Nations.
