The Dubai 2010 Organising Committee on Monday announced seven National Sponsors for the 10th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) which takes place this month.

The National Sponsors for the Championships are telecommunications corporation Etisalat, banking house Emirates NBD, multinational construction conglomerate and the builder of the Championships’ venue, the Saudi Bin Laden Group, retailer Dubai Duty Free, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).
Championships Director Obaid Al Shamsi said: “We are delighted that these organisations and corporations have each agreed to be National Sponsors for the 10th FINA World Swimming Championships and we thank them for their support.
“Their involvement plays a crucial role in ensuring major events like the FINA World Swimming Championships can continue to take place in Dubai. We have attracted a diverse group of National Sponsors from telecommunications, banking, construction, retail, transport, tourism and the utilities and that diversity underlines the health of the Dubai economy.”
The Championships will take place at the spectacular, new Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex on the Dubai Bypass Road from December 15 to 19, the first time a FINA World Swimming Championships has been held in the Middle East.
“The Championships are set to be the biggest in FINA’s history, with more than 700 of the world’s best athletes from over 139 countries coming to Dubai to take part in five days of top-class racing.”
Vice-Championships Director and Chairman of the Marketing Committee Dr Khalid Mohammed Al Zahed said: “It is the first time a swimming World Championships of this scale has ever taken place in the Middle East, let alone the UAE or Dubai and so this is an event of global significance.
“We are particularly thankful to the sponsors for encouraging participation in a healthy lifestyle through supporting swimming, which is also an important cultural and heritage activity in the UAE.”
“It will attract coverage and headlines both locally and internationally and that global exposure will offer excellent returns on investment for all our National Sponsors.
“We have a spectacular, new venue and now we have seven outstanding National Sponsors. We cannot wait for the action to begin on 15th December.”
The National Sponsors join the Official FINA Partners Midea, Myrtha Pools, Nikon, Omega, Speedo and Yakult.
Among the world’s best swimmers set to take part in the Championships are Geoff Huegill and Leisel Jones of Australia, Ryan Lochte and Rebecca Soni from the USA, China’s Liu Zige, Alain Bernard of France, Italy’s Federica Pellegrini and Japan’s Ryosuke Irie.
