UAE Rugby was granted membership of the UAE National Olympic Committee (UAENOC) at the committee’s General Assembly chaired by Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, National Olympic Committee Chairman.

“This is a great achievement for Rugby Union in the UAE and we are exceptionally pleased to be officially recognised by the UAE National Olympic Committee and His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,” said Mohammed Falaknaz, UAE Rugby Association Chairman.

“The UAE Rugby Association recently celebrated its third Anniversary and during this time we set our aims high and have celebrated many successes. We will continue to work on growing the game, develop our youth through the schools and clubs and provide our Emirati players with more international games.”

UAE Rugby’s developmental Seven Emirati side, Shaheen, claimed the Shield at the Bangkok Sevens. Both the UAE National Team and Shaheen are preparing for the upcoming Asian 5 Nations tournament where the UAE National team will compete in Asia’s Top 5 and Shaheen will play Afghanistan in a series of sevens games.

A full member of ARFU (Asian Rugby Football Union), UAE Rugby is in the process of working towards full membership of the IRB (International Rugby Board).
