Lewis Hamilton was gushing in praise of the Yas Marina Circuit as the "best in the world" just hours before the third Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix got underway on Sunday.

"This is the best track in the world. This is the best place in the world. There is no other track with facilities like this. There is no other track with the layout of the circuit. And as clean and fresh and as beautiful as this," said the former world champion from Britain speaking during the Drivers' Track Parade.

"I think it really is the best circuit," said Hamilton of McLaren starts on the front row along with reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel after qualified with the second fastest lap time ahead of team mate Jenson Button.

"I'm very excited to be here and happy to be on the front row," added Hamilton who finished second in Abu Dhabi last year.

Vettel, who is eyeing a hat-trick of triumphs in Abu Dhabi, described it as " very special".

Asked whether he had great memories of last year's race having been crowned youngest world champion in Abu Dhabi, Vettel said: "Not just last year. For sure last year in particular, but also the year before. Coming here (Abu Dhabi) to win the first race here."

Red Bull racer Vettel grabbed a record-equalling 14th pole of the season with a stunning last lap on Saturday.

"Everything falls into place later on. It is very special when the sun goes down. Hopefully there will be lot of people and atmosphere here is really something," said the 24-year-old German of the only twilight race in the Formula One calendar.

Formula One legend Michael Schumacher also praised the circuit. "It is a beautiful set up," said the seven-time Formula One champion.
