Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley could be out for three months after last night’s game with Bolton.

It is injuries like this that make or break a career and when Cleverley returns he may not find his form again and worse, his place may be taken by an in-form player.

The pace Cleverley injected into the United midfield was electric to say the least and the difference was there to see after he limped off.

Which is why Sir Alex Ferguson is justifiably  upset with Bolton’s tactics and those of Kevin Davies – Cleverley’s tackler – in particular.

Ferguson was angry after Bolton skipper Davies picked up his 100th booking - a tally second only to Lee Bowyer in the Premier League.

The United boss was quoted in the Sun as saying: “We think Cleverley has a broken foot. It was a bad tackle and we will see tomorrow morning. We had to endure it (bad tackles) but we kept playing our football. Jonny Evans has hurt his hip. He is doubtful for Benfica on Wednesday. Patrice Evra has a knock on his knee.”
