After years of being stuck in a traffic bottleneck, the expanded section of the Dubai-Sharjah highway at National Paints bridge -- has finally opened today.

Until today, four lanes of the highway in Sharjah [coming in to Dubai] narrowed into only 2 lanes at the National Paints bridge section, creating a traffic bottleneck on the busy highway.

Today, the opening of two lanes allowed for a smoother flow of traffic.

There is yet one more lane on either side at the National Paints bridge section that is yet to be opened. When it is cleared for use, traffic is expected to flow even more smoothly and rapidly.

“Thank God, the two lanes have been opened. I feel greatly relieved. Already, I have felt the difference in the traffic movement,” said Fatma M., a daily commuter from Ajman to Dubai.

The opening of the two lanes acquires greater importance as it is a key link between cities in the northern emirates to both Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

“The road jam at National Paints used to sometimes last for up to two hours. Hopefully, those day are over,” said an elated Ramesh R., another commuter

“Wow, today I managed to cross the National Paints bridge section of the highway in 5 minutes instead of usual 45,” added Ahmed, a Sharjah to Dubai commuter.

“I used to be upset seeing the traffic from Dubai move smoothly on the other side of the road while I was stuck on my way to Dubai,” he added.

The four lanes of the highway from Dubai to Sharjah at National Paints bridge had been open for quite some time.
