The UAE has temporarily banned imports of all live birds and their products and offal from the UK, the Netherlands and Germany due to bird flu cases in those countries, according to three decisions issued on Thursday by Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water.

The temporary ban includes all kinds of domesticated, wild and ornamental living birds, and all their products and offal. It is based on reports from the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) on the appearance of the highly pathogenic avian influenza in the three European countries.

The ban will be valid until the international watchdog says these countries are free from bird flu, according to the resolutions.

However, heat-treated bird meat imports from the three countries were exempted from the new import rule

The ban was imposed as part of the ministry's strategic goal of protecting human and animal health in the country from avian flu and all other diseases.
