Zhou Kehua, a "class-A" wanted serial killer suspect by the Ministry of Public Security, was shot dead by hunting police at 06:50 Tuesday morning near a village in Qinjiagang town, Shapingba District of Chongqing, southwest China.

Police launched a manhunt for the serial killer suspect believed to be behind an armed robbery that left one person dead in Chongqing Friday morning.

The suspect, identified as Zhou Kehua, was believed to have fatally shot a woman in front of a Bank of China branch before grabbing her handbag and fleeing on motorcycle, according to the city's public security bureau.

Two others were also injured in the robbery, which took place in the city's Shapingba District.

The bureau said the 42-year-old male suspect is a Chongqing local. He was suspected of having committed several murders and robberies in Jiangsu and Hunan provinces and Chongqing Municipality since 2004.

On Sunday, a police officer was gunned down while pursuing suspect Zhou Kehua in the city's suburbs.
