Arrest of killer and white supremacist Dylann Roof

Police released a video Tuesday showing the arrest of suspected white supremacist Dylann Roof, who is accused of gunning down nine African Americans during a bible study class in Charleston.

Roof, 21, was arrested in North Carolina Thursday, one day after the mass shooting at a church in neighboring South Carolina, following an intense manhunt.

The dash cam footage, released by North Carolina police, shows three officers, one with a gun drawn, approaching a black car on the side of the road.

One officer walks up to the driver's window as a fourth enters the shot. Roof steps out of the car as the officer at his window grasps his white t-shirt and frisks him.

Roof, with his head slightly bowed at times and with his hands on the vehicle, does not appear to resist the search.

A fifth officer enters the scene as he is handcuffed.

Another officer continues to search Roof, who is wearing long black shorts, black socks and beige hiking boots, before he is escorted away from the black car. Roof remains expressionless throughout.

The suspected gunman remains in solitary confinement in North Carolina on nine counts of murder after the shooting at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

A chilling website registered to Roof contains hate-filled text against African Americans and photographs in which he poses with guns, the Confederate flag and one in which he is burning the US flag.

His apparent race-inspired manifesto painted a chilling portrait of an angry young man.

"I have no choice. I am not in the position to, alone, go into the ghetto and fight," reads the text, which contains spelling mistakes.

"I chose Charleston because it is most historic city in my state, and at one time had the highest ratio of blacks to Whites in the country."

The shooting was the worst attack on a US place of worship in decades and comes at a time of revived racial tensions in many parts of the nation.

Roof faces the death penalty if convicted.
