An Indian entrepreneur is the latest entrant in what appears to be a million-dollar venture.

Chirag Jagtiani who launched his SpotNSave device says its only function is to alert friends and relatives in times of danger.

“There are so many instances of rape and crime against women, especially in developing countries like India and Africa. My very idea behind this product is to come to their aid,” says Jagtiani, who currently operates out of his office in Hong Kong.

The $38 wearable security device consists of a Bluetooth wristband with a SOS button and an emergency app on your smartphone. The app sends location information to your friends (you can preset upto five numbers) in the event of an emergency.

The product currency works in coordination with an Android app, while the iOS app could be ready by the end of April, he says.

According to him more than 600 units have been sold since the product was launched in December 2013.

“I have managed to achieve this through social media campaigns and friends. There has not been any sort of commercial advertisements so far,” he says.

According to him the device is most suitable for women who and vulnerable. The device can also be used by kids and old people.

“Recently I have been getting a lot of Inquiries from Hospitals in the US and UK to deploy spotNsave so that they could use it for their patients,” he says.

Currently the device can be purchased by placing a pre-order online.
