Apple's own curved TV to battle Samsung, LG?

Could Apple be working on a new OLED TV? Will the iTV take on the might of Samsung and LG with its own OLED displays? If reports are to be believed, Apple is working with a South Korean display maker in manufacturing 65-inch OLED panels.

There have been reports that Apple could be working on its own brand of TV. Initially, the plans were for an LCD TV but now it appears that Apple could be working on a more expensive but technologically advanced OLED displays.

A report by Korea Herald quoting an unnamed South Korean display manufacture says the project is still under testing phase and could go into mass production next year. The report also added that the plan was to produce about 2 million television sets with 65- and 77-inch displays. If the project had gone according to the plan, the iTV should have been ready by this year but has now been postponed to next year.

“The company is making 65-inch organic light-emitting diode sample panels for Apple’s iTV in collaboration with Apple,” the report said quoting Lee Seung-woo, an analyst at Seoul-based IBK Securities.

He however also added that he is not sure if Apple could use this product for the mass production.

The report also added that executives from Apple even visited the plant in South Korea which could become the first one to produce OLED panels for Apple’s iTV if the project is approved.

Last year, Designer Martin Hajek who has worked on several concept images of Apple iPhones released his idea of how an Apple iTV could look. He came out with two different colour variants of a 55 inch curved screen.
