This week’s list of gadgets has some innovative new products starting from the ‘wondercube’ - the one- inch cube that is the modern day Swiss knife in a tech savvy world; the personal submarine for underwater exploration and a new smart glass that helps you focus rather than distract.
Wondercube
For all those who have used a Swiss Army knife, the Wondercube can be compared to something equivalent in a technology world.
The simple key ring has eight different functions – a charger, memory card reader, phone stand, torch and also emergency power.
Wondercube features a foldout flexible USB cord measuring 3 inches when extended and can be folded in just 1-inch. The cube is completely covered without any exposed contacts.
It comes with built-in gold-plated connectors that enable charging through any USB port.
The cube can also be used as a stand for your phone, thanks to the micro-suction cups plate that can easily attach or detach on the phone's back panel.
Plus in the device and you are already connected to a 64GB external storage.
What’s more the cube also comes with a connected where you can plug in a 9V battery to provide some emergency power backup.
Finally, it also acts as a mini LED torch.
You can pre-order the device on Indiegogo and is priced at $59 for a 16GB cube, and $79 for a 64 GB cube.
Amphibious Sub-Surface Watercraft
Call it a personal submarine. This partially submersible watercraft is ideal for exploring underwater environments. It can seat four people, two on the upper deck and two on the lower.
The submarine is composed of two decks, can seat four people.
The above-water upper hull is a two-person cockpit that provides 180º surface views and an inverted 1 1/2”-thick acrylic hemisphere below that provides two additional passengers underwater views.
The upper cockpit houses controls for two horizontally oriented underwater thrusters that provide up to 6 knots forward/4 knots backward movement as well as 360º turns.
Two 24-volt lithium battery banks provide 110 hours of water operation (up to 8 hours on land) before requiring a recharge using the included AC adapter.
The watercraft does not come for cheap and is priced at $300,000. You can also get it custom built.
Smartglass
How often do you get distracted while working? Well, if you are someone who gets distracted very often, then this one’s for you.
It is a Smartglass that will just go dark when it realises that you are getting distracted.
Named ‘Narbis’, it uses new development in brain training technology and uses programs developed by Nasa to help measure pilots attention levels.
It uses sensors to measure your brain patterns and send these signals to a set of electrochromic lenses.
By going through a 30 minute programme, you can train the glass to determine what’s work and what`s distraction.
The Kickstarter campaign for the project has currently raised $26,906 out of the $150,000 target with 37 more days to go.
Infinite USB
This is yet another Kickstarter Project and creates infinite USB slots, thereby eliminating the need for multiple USB ports or even a USB hub.
A simple concept that sort of brings elegance to your desk, the USB port has a slot within itself that can connect another one, which when plugged in will create space for yet another one, thereby creating the possibility for infinite slots.
Smart desk phone
Who said only mobile phones were smart. Alcatel Lucent has come out with a new smart desk phone, aimed at businesses, that comes with a screen and enables you to make video calls.
The Alcatel-Lucent 8088 Smart DeskPhone is part of the OpenTouch 2.1 update where users can easily navigate between workstations, tablets, smartphones and even comes with a built in 5MP camera and enables wideband audio and HD video conversations.
