Etisalat will soon come out with a promotion for BlackBerry Torch, reducing its price by almost Dh1,000, sources revealed on Tuesday.
The demand for BlackBerry’s latest model is picking up fast and du has been cashing in with an “attractive offer”, offering the handset at Dh2,650 with a six-month free data package.
On the contrary etisalat has no promotional offer and subscribers visiting the stands at Gitex Shopper for Torch are being advised to wait for “some more time”.
One of the salespersons said: “We are being told that an offer is on its way… the promotion would be announced in the next two days or it could even be after Gitex. But it will definitely come,” he said.
According to him, etisalat could come up with a price tag of Dh1,650 for the BlackBerry Torch along with a monthly rental of Dh185 and a minimum commitment of one year.
“We are getting many enquiries and we are asking our subscribers to wait,” he said.
However, those who are in a hurry are migrating to du.
Sanjana Kumar, who specifically came to the Gitex Shopper to buy the Torch, said: “I have decided to wait because the Dh1,000 reduction, if true, is too good to resist. I do not want to buy a du connection since I am not keen on changing my number.”
Salesmen from Jumbo, Emax and other stores, however, say the du offer is selling fast.
“Right now if you buy a Torch with etisalat connection all you get is a Micromax mobile free. People are opting for the six-month free data plan instead,” said one salesperson from Jacky’s.
Similar is the case with the Samsung Galaxy.
Stocks have finished in most outlets and Jacky’s, which has some stocks left, are selling the tablet at Dh3,500, Dh200 more than the current retail price.
