A surge in data services will ally with high mobile phone growth and the introduction of fixed line telephone facility to boost Du’s revenue by nearly 25 per cent in 2011, the company’s CEO was reported on Monday as saying.

From around dh7.07 billion in 2010, the total revenue of the second largest telephone service provider in the UAE will soar to Dh8.83 billion in 2011, Othman Sultan told the semi official daily Alittihad.

He said data services, which had sharply grown over the past years, has contributed by nearly 10 per cent of the total income since the start of 2011, adding that he expected further growth due to steady expansion in mobile phone services, including the smart phone network.

“These developments have boosted the return on our per capita mobile phone service to one of the highest levels in the region,” he said.

“We expected an unprecedented boom in revenue from our land line network this year following the launching of this facility…we are in the process of conducting trials on our fixed line networks before it becomes fully operational.”

Sultan said Du’s share of the UAE mobile phone market has exceeded 44 per cent, adding that this “constitutes a substantial achievement in just four years.”

He said the company was also pushing ahead with plans to invest nearly $1.7 billion in 2011 to develop the infrastructure of its mobile and fixed line network.
