Federal implementation of mGovernment within two years

Country wide adaptation of mGovernment imitative will be achieved within the next two years, a senior official said yesterday.

According to Hamad Al Mansoori, Director General, UAE mGovernment, the advances made by government departments and institutions in developing mobile applications and services in Dubai and Abu Dhabi will be freely passed on to all departments across the country.

“We could see this happening in the next two years,” he said.

According to him, the response so far has been good. “Even from the users perspective we have seen promising adaptation. We want to expand the services to all levels and all categories,” he added.

The government has allocated about Dh200 million for the implementation of mGovernment initiative in the country.

When asked if there has been any enhancement in the budget he said, “Currently we are progressing well within the allotted budget,” he added.

Dubai has put in place a strategy – the Dubai Smart Government strategy – that lays emphasis on implementing mobile solutions and applications for all major government services.

The plan calls for an increase in the uptake of services via smart devices (mAdoption) to 25 per cent in 2017 and 60 per cent by 2021, with eServices (eAdoption) to 60 per cent in 2017 and 80 per cent by 2021.

Currently Dubai has been the leader in terms of mGovernment initiatives The Dubai Water and Electricity Authority for example has gone a step ahead and even announced an app on a smartwatch through which users can pay their utility bills.
