KipstR – Records TV when you sleep

How many times have you fallen asleep while watching TV and missed your favourite show. Two teenagers, aged 14 and 15, have come up with a solution. A wristband that detects when you fall asleep and instructs your DVR or any other WiFi-connected recorders to start recording the TV programme.

The duo have called their gadget the KipstR and will be debuting in the UK for trial.

According to a report by 3ders, the device features a pulse-oximeter that can measure when someone goes off to sleep. The sensor finds out the variation in blood circulation to analyse if the person is awake or asleep. The device is 3D printed and there is no price structure available as yet.

Power Pen

This is not just a pen, it acts as a stylus and a phone charger as well. The Power Pen, as it is called, can recharge your smartphone with its inbuilt 700mAh battery, while the rubbery tip on one end acts as s stylus for your tablet, phablet or a smartphone. And for those using traditional paper, especially when you have to sign a document or fill out a form, the power pen adds has the ball point features as well. The device measures approximately 15.5cm in length and has a brushed aluminum exterior and comes in two colours – black and gold.

Well, after all a pen they say could be the most borrowed item in the world after money. Add to this list the latest entrant – the charger.

This gadget combines both the pen and a power charger and could well be an ideal candidate to make you productive enough to earn more money. The device is currently on pre-order for 24.99 British pounds (Dh143).

Smartphone Steriliser

Research has proved that smartphones, especially the screen, harbours many more germs (20 times) compared to a toilet seat. The result - multiple phone sterilisers are flooding the market. On sale in the UAE is one such sterliser, which the retailer (Merlin) says can eliminate almost 99 per cent of germs within 5 seconds. The device comes with an automatic lock translucent cover and has a dual lamp disinfecting system. It includes a cable slot for multiple charge options and can take in all types of smartphones that falls within the dimension of 125 x 225 x 40 mm. The device is priced at $54 (Dh198).

3D pen

Just as pens are being used as chargers, USB drives, spy cams, and even a stylus, comes the latest new advancement - the 3D technology. Although 3D printers are fast gaining traction in schools and design houses for modeling and product development, 3D pens are fast emerging as serious contenders, especially for its ease of use and portability features.

Called the 3Doodler, the device was first launched on Kickstarter and subsequently launched across the world and the UAE in May 2014.

A user needs to just draw in the air and the pen pushes out a thin layer of heated plastic that quickly hardens to create the 3D models of your choice.

The device uses sticks made of organic PLA or standard BPA free ABS plastic, which melts inside the pen and solidifies as soon as it comes out of the tip. The only point of caution is that the metal tip gains extreme temperature when in operation and should not be touched. The device is priced at Dh475 for a starter pack.

GPS-enabled wallet

Never lose your wallet again. The leather wallet by Royce comes with a GPS tracing ability and communicates to you its exact location in case it is stolen.

The wallet is equipped with a Bluetooth technology and connects to both Android and iOS devices through the Trackr mobile application. It also comes with an RFID blocking material to stop others from accessing personal information.

The tracker can establish a connection to the connected mobile device from about 100 feet to track the location. The device is priced at $99 (Dh363).
