Gitex Shopper Day 2: Smartphone prices sink

Smartphones and tablets dominated deals on Day 1 of the much-awaited Gitex Shopper Dubai, which opened its doors to masses yesterday.

The 25th anniversary edition of the region’s largest and most anticipated consumer electronics show saw thousands of technology fans and bargain-hunters visit the show at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

Smartphones were clearly in demand, with the yet-to-officially-launch iPhone 6s clearly garnering the most interest among both genuine customers as well as inquisitive passers-by.

“With the latest trends in high tech on offer, exciting features and activities every single hour of the show, there is something for all ages, interests and budgets,” said Trixie LohMirmand, Senior Vice-President, DWTC, organiser of the event.  

Indeed, being a Saturday, the first day saw a number of children accompany their parents to the show, and the attention was as much on gaming consoles as it was on tablets, notebooks and hybrid computers.

The world’s top tech brands including Lenovo, Dell, Samsung and Toshiba, together with regional power retailers such as Jacky’s, Jumbo, Max Electronics, Plug Ins and Sharaf DG are showcasing exciting new product launches and offers across the full range of technology, communication and entertainment products being showcased.

Products include the latest laptops, mobile phones and smartphones, cameras, photographic equipment and wearable tech, including the latest bestselling gizmos – self-balancing electric scooters.
