The countdown for the iPhone 6 announcement has begun. Within a few hours [at 1pm EDT (8pm local time)] Apple CEO Tim Cook is expected to announce, for the first time, an iPhone that moves beyond the 4-inch frame.

It is widely expected that Apple will announce two new devices - the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and a phablet-sized 5.5-inch - apart from an iWatch.

You can watch live streaming of the Apple announcement at Apple.com/live. There's already a countdown on in case you forget. “Live video from our special event will be right here. And so will a whole lot more,” notes Apple below the stopwatch.

But will there be a surprise announcement? Apple, which is known to come up with surprise announcements has failed to do so during the last two releases. Several leaks and rumours accurately predicted details of both the iPhone 5 and the Phone 5S much ahead of the launch. This time, too, rumour mills have been busy with multiple image leaks with specific details on not one, but two different iPhone models.

Today we have details in terms of the size, display, camera specifications, specs, etc.,

To top it all, a Chinese website has released new videos of what could well be a fully functional iPhone 6.

The videos looks genuine with tapered polished edges and details of the phone's features and build.

There have already been comments and reactions to the videos with some terming it as an ugly design. “Did Apple take two years to come up with this crappy design,” one user asks, while many others have praised the tapered edges of the new design.

However, what is not clear is the presence of NFC on the new model. The passbook feature still appears prominently in the video. It is widely believed that the iPhone will incorporate the NFC features making mobile payments easy.

Well, with the official announcement just a few hours away let’s wait and see if Tim Cook springs a surprise or the tech blogs and media have already spoiled the show.
