Local availability of Samsung Note Edge could be revealed in two weeks, a senior Samsung official has said.

Samsung unveiled both the Note 4 – a successor to the Note 3, and the Note Edge, which comes with a curved second screen on the edge and displays notifications and alerts on September 3 at the IFA in Berlin ahead of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus.

But there is no clear idea about the availability of the new Note Edge.

A senior company official told Emirates 24/7 that the exact timeframe could become clear in a couple of weeks’ time. “We are still not clear about the exact availability of the Note Edge. But we will get to know in two weeks,” said Hayssam Yassine, Head of Telecommunications Group at Samsung Gulf Electronics.

The only available information about the Note Edge is that it would be available in Canada by early 2015.

Meanwhile, you can pre-order the Galaxy Note 4 and the Gear S smart watch here in the UAE starting today. The devices will go up for sale at the retail stores starting October 17. Samsung also announced the local pricing structure and the Galaxy Note 4 will start from Dh2,799 while the Gear S is priced at Dh1,299.

When asked why the late release of the Note 4 and the Note Edge he said, “We were the first to announce the new devices at Berlin, ahead of the iPhone but we could not bring out the devise into retail shops due to some factory issues (supply chain constraints). Anyway we do not plan our release based on our competitors,” he added.

Both the iPhone models are set to officially become available here in the UAE on September 27, almost three weeks ahead of Samsung.

Commenting on Gear S, the 3 G enabled smart watch that come with its own SIM card and can function independently, he said, “The interest in the region is slowly catching up. The previous versions have performed according to expectations and we are not complaining,” he said.
