In a bid to upstage the numerous launches planned for the upcoming Gitex Shopper, Dubai-based Jumbo Electronics today introduced India’s low- to mid-range Xolo smartphones in the UAE, days ahead of the start of Gitex Shopper.
Xolo is owned by India’s Lava, which aims to become a $1bn company by the end of 2015. Jumbo unveiled six Xolo devices today, starting at Dh399 for the A550s and going up to Dh1,099 for the higher-end Play 8X-1100 device.
“We will be showcasing the Xolo line-up of products at Gitex Shopper this year,” confirmed Ajay Pathak, Head - Mobility and Solutions Division, Jumbo Electronics. While Dubai is Xolo’s debut market in the Middle East, the firm maintains that it will soon roll out its brand in the Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Iraq markets.
Jumbo Electronics has been appointed as the official distributor of Xolo devices in the region, even as the brand will be available on other major retailers including Sharaf DG, Emax, and some hypermarkets, officials said at the launch.
“We are investing heavily in product development and marketing, and are aiming to become a $1bn company by the end of FY14-15,” said Vishal Sehgal, Co-founder & Director of Lava International, Xolo’s parent company.
The firm said that its Play 8X-1100 offers console-like gaming experience and is optimised for mobile gamers. The device priced at Dh1,099 will have free access to a certain games in Xolo’s gaming zone which is powered by Gameloft and includes HD games.
The other Xolo smartphones launched in the UAE today are Hive 8X-1000 (Dh899), Play-6X-1000 (Dh999), Q700S+ (Dh499), A700s (Dh449) and A550s (Dh399).
