Dubai Smart Government Department (DSG) has announced that the recharge service for users of pre-paid mobile phones from Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Co. has been added to its mPay app.

This step consolidates the shift to smart government and proves that smart services are demanded by those living in Dubai,” said Ahmad Bin Humaidan, DSG Director General.

Bin Humaidan explained that DSG is working on expanding the circle of individual and corporate beneficiaries of mPay app by involving new government departments and entities or by adding other services of interest to customers.

“This service has been added to the mPay app in response to the requests of some of our customers as seen in the regular surveys and feedback. We consider their satisfaction and happiness as a priority and have made this provision of instant payment for many services through one app,” he said.

By activating this service, pre-paid customers will be able to top up their accounts directly through the app on their smartphones.

According to recent statistics revealed by DSG, the mPay app saw greater adoption, rising by 117 per cent in amount collected over the last 9 months of 2015 (between January and end of September) as compared to the same period last year.

Even transactions rose by 110 percent during this period. The amounts collected stood at Dh230.68 million from 455,591 transactions by the end of September compared to Dh106.16 million through 217,266 transactions over the same period last year.

Meanwhile, more iPhone and Android users are interested in downloading the app as shown in the rise of registered customers to 100,000 and the app being downloaded around 123,000 times over the first nine months of this year.

The mPay app, for Apple and Android smartphones allows easy and convenient payment registration and payment options. Registered users of the app can pay Dewa bills, traffic fines, Etisalat and Du bills, RTA fees, some of Dubai Municipality and Dubai Customs services as well as donate to Dubai Cares and Al Jalila Foundation.

Customisation with credit card registration includes auto-payment, partial payment and control over the minimum balance and the maximum payment/recharge.

Bin Humaidan added: “In line with DSG’s strategy which seeks to ease the lives of people and enable them to access services easily, at any time and through multiple channels, we are pleased to announce the activation of this service to offer more comfort and happiness to a large segment of Du customers,” said Ahmad Bin Humaidan, DSG Director General.
