The idea of launching a third company to provide telecommunications services in the UAE is not on the table said Majid Sultan Al Mesmar, Deputy Director General, at the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).

Al Mesmar added that TRA does not have any intention to license a third operator in the market to be added to the two companies which provide telecommunication services in the UAE market (Etisalat and Du).

The statements of Al Mesmar came in exclusive interview with Emirates 24|7 recently.

The TRA has just conducted a benchmark test that showed good results of the operators’ networks performance and the results are published on TRA website.

He said: “The UAE has recently launched the fourth generation of mobile communication network (L-T-E), making it one of the first of the operators of that network in the world.”

He also added that the UAE is recently hosting the ITU Telecom world 2012 which comes out its headquarters in Geneva for the second time since its inception 40 years ago.

This puts the UAE in distinct place in terms of telecommunications.

He stressed that the UAE is using the most advanced techniques and high-quality networks and billions of dirhams invested in the telecommunications sector.
