Phone covers or cases are no more meant for merely protecting your phone.
A new technology company has announced the launch of a phone cover with sensors that can monitor your health.
You simply hold on to the phone with the Wello cover for a few moments hidden sensors take measurements and pass on information to the Wello app.
The covers transmits the data to your phone – to iOS devices for now – using Bluetooth.
The company is working on an Android application which will be released soon.
The sensors in the cover measures a number of key vitals including blood pressure, electrocardiography (ECG), heart rate, blood oxygen, temperature, lung functions and more.
According to a company statement it does it with a high level of accuracy.
The company released a couple of teaser videos ahead of the announcement.
The case, however, does not come for cheap and will cost as much as a low-end Android phone.
In the US it will retail for $199 (Dh730). Currently it is available for pre-order in Canada, China, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United Kingdom and across the European Union.
“We have effectively put health monitoring equipment, typically in large form factors, into a highly convenient and accessible mobile phone case," said Hamish Patel, founder and CEO at Azoi.
According to him over the last two years the company has focused its efforts on coming up with a technologically advanced yet easy-to-use tool to help people monitor health and facilitate better lifestyle choices.
"We are proud to introduce Wello - a not so small engineering feat in microelectronics, nanosensors, imaging, data analytics and design, that we hope will make a big difference in helping the world become a healthier place.
“All too often, health problems go undetected until they are too late to address," Hamish said.
The advantage with the new device is that it allows a user to measure and record these vitals without wearing any additional wearable device.
The device also connects with other health and fitness devices such as pedometers and sleep trackers to help identify how different behaviors can affect one's bodily state.
