BlackBerry users who want to abandon their handsets due to shortage of any significant apps, don’t throw away your phones yet.
Now, one can easily run thousands of Android apps seamlessly on any of the BB10 devices, thanks to the removal of previously enabled restrictions.
A new version of Android runtime has been released (note: It is not an official BlackBerry release) that enables apps to run without the limitations that BlackBerry had previously set .
Even earlier one could load the Android runtime but apps did not work properly due to the limitations set by BlackBerry. The new runtime manages to bypass these limitations.
As it is not an official release, the possibility of the phone crashing following the installation cannot be ruled out.
According to a report on N4BB soon we could see Instagram integrated into BlackBerry.
Although Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom had recently said the app would not be coming to BlackBerry 10 anytime now, the report says an image leaked by an alleged developer points out otherwise and shows Instagram integrated into the BlackBerry Hub.
BlackBerry has been suffering declining sales across the world.
According to a recent announcement by the UAE’s Telecom Regulatory Authority, BlackBerry is the second most popular handset, registering a 10.7 per cent marketshare, in terms of registration with mobile networks.
However, in terms of smartphone usage BlackBerry has been relegated to number five position with Blackberry Bold 9900 and Blackberry Bold 9780 remaining the most popular models.
Earlier retailers had said the BlackBerry Q10 continues to remain the hot favourite in terms of sales on par with the iPhone and Samsung S4. But with no new development and a significant lack of popular apps on the BlackBerry platform sales continue to slide.
One BlackBerry user told Emirates 24l7 that she is ready to abandon her handset after four and a half years.
“Every day my BB9900 freezes about three to four times and I am sick of it. From a significant lack of applications to no proper integration to social media, there are about 50 million reasons why I have decided to switch over,” says Nandu R.
