5 non-smartphone gadgets unveiled @IFA Berlin
The annual tech show is known for its focus on consumer electronics and home appliances. This year too the show played hosts to several new announcements and product launches with more than 1,500 exhibitors.
Samsung Gear VR
Samsung's two major announcements this IFA has been the Note 4, the Note Edge and the Gear VR.
Plug in the Note 4 into the gear VR and the two devices get connected through the USB slot and you have a giant screen in front of you with a 96-degree viewing angle. Currently you just have some 3D demos but Samsung hopes the Gear VR will be handy when it comes to gaming, training and creating various virtual reality.
Asus Zenwatch
The smartwatch is Asus' first entry into the wearable arena and offers a unique blend of both a traditional timepiece and a smartwatch.
The device is powered by Android Wear and featuring a version of the ASUS ZenUI user interface developed specifically for ZenWatch.
Among the features are watch unlock, tap to unlock, remote camera, cover to mute, find my phone and presentation control.
A 9-axis sensor along with the wellness app lets users monitor and track a range of wellness statistics including steps taken, calories burned, activity duration, heart rate, exercise intensity and relaxation level.
The device is powered by a Qualcomm processor. The device has a 2.5D curved glass and is touch enabled while the strap is made of stitched-leather.
Fugoo speakers - water, snow, sand, dust and water proof Fugoo unveiled its latest line of speakers at the IFA in Berlin. The speakers according to Fugoo has a 360-degree audio with almost 40 hours of battery life.
The speakers are water, dust, snow and sand proof. They are so waterproof that the company claims the speakers are completely submersible up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. "They can even be rinsed off with a hose." Optional accessories hook the speakers to a bike, paddle-board, kayak, backpack or even a tree.
Sony QX30 and QX1 lens camera
Sony has expanded its camera lens range with two new additions the DSC-QX30 that has a zoom capacity of 30X and E-mount interchangeable-lens ILCE-QX1.
The new cameras have also been supported by the latest version of Sony's PlayMemories Mobile application (version 5.0 for Android and iOS devices) to connect wirelessly to a smartphone.
With NFC capability the app gets connected to the lenses with just a touch. The new QX1 camera features a built-in 20.1 megapixel APS-C size Exmor CMOS sensor and BIONZ X processor for an improved noise reduction and low-light images.
The new DSC-QX30 camera apart from its 30x optical zoom lens includes features such as optical image stabilization, clear image zoom with colour and pattern matching technologies, lock-on AF and continuous shooting at up to 10fps and full HD Video recording.
Toshiba Chromebook 2
Toshiba released the second edition of its Chromebook at the IFA with a Full HD display resolution. The 13.3 device weighs about 1.35kg an Intel Celeron processor and 16GB internal storage.
