Blackberry is all set to finally launch its much faster, 4G LTE playbook on Thursday, August 9. The upgraded version will first hit Canadian stores but will soon be launched in all other major markets.

Blackberry’s website in the United States

has already started advertising the device with specs such as a preloaded OS 2.0.1, 1.5 GHz dual core processor, 1 GB RAM, Symmetric multi-processing and 6-axis motion sensing (gyroscope).

The instrument will also feature a micro USB port, a micro HDMI port, LTE (700, 1700 MHz) and HSPA+ (2100, 1900, 1700, 800, 900 MHz).

It looks like Blackberry has abandoned the 16 inch-model for the cellular+wifi model. The wifi only model however will be released in 16GB, 32GB and 64Gb variants.

The release could come as a significant boost for Blackberry fans as it provides them with a much faster device that could match other competing brands.

What’s more, the company is in an advanced stage of releasing its 10-inch Playbook.

Pictures released by a Vietnamese website Tinhte show us some interesting images of the larger Playbook that resembles the 7 inch model with a slot for Sim card.

Even as Blackberry which was once a serious competitor to Apple plans to come up with its own 10-inch tablet, the latter is working on its own smaller sized tablet.

Apple’s plans for a smaller size tablet has all but been confirmed by its ongoing legal ballet with Samsung.

Head of Apple’s iTunes business Eddy Cue, in an email sent on Jan 24, 2011 is seen vouching for a 7″ market and that Apple should pursue that opportunity.

According to reports Cue then shot off an e-mail to current Apple CEO Tim Cook about his idea for a smaller sized tablet asking him to discuss it with Steve Jobs who was “very receptive the last time.”

While Apple has planned to launch the sixth generation of its iPhone on September 12, it is expected that the company will so0n follow suit with an announcement on the smaller tablet as well.
