Dewa to repay loan ahead of time

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa)  has no plans to tap bond markets in 2012 and the state utility will repay a Dh1.2 billion ($326.7 million) securitisation maturity this year ahead of time, its top executive said.

"There is no bond this year," Chief Executive Saeed Mohammed Al- Tayer told Reuters on Thursday.

Dewa issued Dh7.35 billion worth of bonds in October 2010. It is the sole provider of electricity and water in the emirate of Dubai.

1,000 firms to take part in Wetex

More than 1,000 local and international companies from over 31 countries will participate in the 14th Water, Energy, and Environment Exhibition 2012 (Wetex) taking place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from March 13 to 1

It is the largest exhibition ever since its start in terms of numbers of participants, categories and activities and events related to energy, water, environment, renewable sources of energy, conservation and many other important matters in these fields.

The forthcoming exhibition will cover a total area of 33,000 square meters, an increase of 10,000 square meters in comparison to the 2011 exhibition, which was 23,000 square meters. Furthermore, more than 12,000 visitors are expected this year.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) unveiled its latest developments and preparations for the launch of Wetex.

Free entrance

Dewa said there will be no charges or fees for visitors of the exhibition so as to provide the opportunity for as many people as possible to look at the displays and information, including conserving water and electricity consumption to preserve Dubai’s natural resources. This will benefit not only organizations and companies but also visitors of the Exhibition.

“This year’s exhibition will be the 14th one in a row and has established itself a good reputation as an ideal platform to showcase and address important matters in water conservation, protecting natural resources and sustainable development. Participating companies seek to showcase their state-of-the-art technologies and solutions in electricity and water. This exhibition is an ideal opportunity for participants to display their technologies as it has become one of the most prominent exhibitions hosted by Dubai; to highlight Dubai’s global position as a hub for finance, business and tourism,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, MD & CEO of Dewa and Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee of Wetex, during the press conference.

“Energy industry observers and commentators know that there are growing concerns in the region in general, and especially in our country. I would like to announce that next year’s Wetex 2013 will be held simultaneously with Dubai Global Energy Forum 2013. This year’s exhibition has become a platform for top manufacturers, decision makers, executives and brand owners. This will provide an ideal opportunity to develop new partnerships and promote existing business relations. Furthermore, participants can showcase their latest developments and technologies in the field of energy to implement international energy solutions to meet the ever-increasing demand for energy, to promote economic development, conserve our natural resources and protect the environment,” Al Tayer said.

“I would like to point out that this forthcoming exhibition is particularly noteworthy, as it will see the inclusion of fuel and gas technology companies participating for the first time. These activities will include oil and gas companies’ exploration, drilling, production, refining, distribution, transportation and exports as well as all other related activities. Also, there will be considerable focus on advanced and professional technologies in the field of energy; including fossil fuels, nuclear and renewable energy generation, and highly-efficient and reliable smart grids,” he added.
