Emirates plane in emergency landing

A Dubai-bound Emirates airline plane carrying 465 passengers from Kuala Lumpur made an emergency landing in Chennai on Saturday. Emirates blamed the incident on technical failure. An Indian media report said there was smoke in the cockpit.

According to a statement from Emirates the passengers reached Dubai this afternoon.

“Emirates flight EK409 from Kuala Lumpur to Dubai was diverted to Chennai on April 9 for technical reasons. Because of the time on the ground resolving the technical issues, the crew were no longer able to complete the journey to Dubai within prescribed flying hours. The passengers and crew were accommodated overnight in Chennai and departed this morning with an expected arrival time in Dubai of 1224hrs local time,” the statement said.

Meanwhile a full emergency was declared at the Chennai Airport following the incident.
