Etihad Airways is aggressively continuing its recruitment drive as it expands operations into India before year-end as a direct result of the Jet Airways alliance, which was unveiled on September 20.

The Abu Dhabi-based carrier has announced that it has already received more than 1,000 applications from men and women looking to join the airline’s cabin crew division, with separate drives held in Bangalore, Mumbai and New Delhi.

The three tier cities in India saw nearly 200 applicants successfully recruited who will be trained as cabin crew in advance of the airline’s operational expansion in India in December 2013.

And the hiring hasn’t stopped, stated the carrier.

Richard Hill, Etihad Airways’ Chief Operations Officer, said: “India will play an increasingly central part in the expansion of Etihad Airways and we are delighted that so many men and women are keen to join our ranks as members of cabin crew.

“There are already nearly 4,000 cabin crew flying aboard Etihad Airways aircraft. They enjoy comprehensive training, development, and career opportunities, and we look forward to welcoming new Indian colleagues as we enter this exciting new phase of growth.”

Any applicants interested in joining Etihad can apply via its website, with new cabin crew members undergoing a six-week training programme in Abu Dhabi, which includes all aspects of cabin safety and service delivery.

The Abu Dhabi-based airline recently announced it will increase flight frequencies, and introduce wide-bodied aircraft to India for the first time, with greater expansion set for 2014.

As part of its alliance with Jet, Etihad will also increase from daily to double-daily its Abu Dhabi-Mumbai and Abu Dhabi-New Delhi flights.

Seat capacity will also increase as the carrier introduces wide-bodied Airbus A340-600 aircraft on one of the daily Abu Dhabi–Mumbai flights, offering all three classes.

A wide-bodied Airbus A330-200 aircraft will also be utilised on one of the daily Abu Dhabi-New Delhi flights, offering business and economy class; and upgrade daily Abu Dhabi-Chennai flights from 136-seat Airbus A320s to new Airbus A321s, seating 174 passengers.
