New 36,000 sqm retail extension of the Mall of Emirates will open on September 28, adding 40 shopping, dining and entertainment outlets, Dubai-based shopping malls owner and operator Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) said on Thursday.

With an investment of more than Dh1 billion, the extension includes 20 fashion brands, 12 restaurants and a completely revamped 24-screen VOX Cinemas featuring advanced technologies such as: the first IMAX with Laser screen in the Middle East, the largest 4DX screen, the new theatre by Rhodes.

Going by the media reports, the Mall will also host the first Apple store in the UAE. Apple has been working on opening up Apple stores in the UAE including the world’s largest outlet at Mall of the Emirates.

While there has been no official confirmation from Apple about the possible opening date or the location of the stores, Apple posted fourteen new job openings including that for a senior manager – retail; manager- retail; business leader; service specialist; and also has invited applicants for store leader programme in May.

Hidden in one of the job posting was a date that indicated that Apple store could well be up and running by September 2015.

Phase 1 of the Mall of Emirates extension was completed in 2014 with the unveiling of the Fashion District - a Dh100 million new precinct that has introduced some first-time boutique brands to the UAE.

The beginning of Phase 2 marks the addition of a new taxi rank located next to Ski Dubai, at Welcome Court 4, which represented a total investment of Dh10 million.  In addition, Mall of the Emirates increased its car park capacity by building a newly-opened parking deck with roof-top shade on Level 4, creating 1,300 new spots.
