Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted the Organising Committee of Omani Products Exhibition (Opex) at the Chamber premises on Wednesday announcing their third global expo to be held in Dubai from September 14 to 16.

After their successful annual expos in Riyadh and Qatar, the Organising Committee set their sight on Dubai to introduce Omani industrial products, which conform to international standards, to UAE businessmen, entrepreneurs and other communities as the emirate is a strong base for foreign investors and attracts businesses from various economic sectors especially those from the GCC countries.

Also, the exhibition will focus on different economic sectors like building materials, leather, food, pharmaceutical and polypropylene products, and handicrafts involving SMEs. It will also allow Omani industrialists to meet global business leaders in Dubai which is a centre of trade and finance.

The launch ceremony, presided over by Atiq Juma Nasib, Senior Director, Commercial Services Sector, Dubai Chamber, was attended by Ayman Abdullah Hamed Al Hasani, Vice-Chairman, Head of Industry and Mining Committee, Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, representatives of the Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Paiped), Oman Ministry of Trade and Industry, and the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates.

Announcing the exhibition, Al Hasani informed about the importance of the press conference which he said was an ideal venue to liaise with and to reach out to all stakeholders. He added that Dubai was their obvious choice as the emirate is considered a big business hub and its preparations for hosting of Expo 2020 offers a lot of opportunities for building stronger trading ties.

Traditionally, Dubai enjoys a strategic location on the world economic map. The emirate is a major export and re-export hub in the region offering a strong base for Omani businesses to interact with major global business leaders in the emirate, said Al Hasani adding that Oman’s non-oil exports to the UAE through its main export market in Dubai during 2013 was to the value of 658 million Omani riyals in comparison to 550 million Omani riyals during 2012, which is an increase of 19.6%.

Nasib stated that Oman and Dubai enjoy a very strong trading relationship as Dubai Chamber members’ exports and re-exports in 2013 to Oman was 6% of the GCC total. There is ample scope for the two sides to benefit from each other’s capabilities and expertise, he said.

Dubai today is an ideal destination for trade and finance as well as a global capital for major exhibitions and conferences. The emirate provides an ideal environment for business, a gateway to the region and a hub for expanding into promising markets of the world including the Middle East, Southeast Asia and the African continent, added Nasib.

He further said that the hosting of the Omani products exhibition in Dubai will allow business networking and the opportunity to build stronger trade ties as the Chamber is fully supporting the event and inviting the emirate’s businesses to participate and make a success of the Omani products exhibition in Dubai.

Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Chairman, Index Holding, organisers of the Omani Products Exhibition with a considerable experience of organising trade fairs in the UAE and abroad, said that this initiative will enhance commercial cooperation between the two countries. "I foresee a resounding success for this exhibition as Dubai is well known for this type of a trade show that encourages strategic partnership and commercial cooperation between two trading partners,’’ he said.
