CPI in Dubai up 0.53% in January

Inflation of Consumer Price Index in Dubai rose 0.53 per cent in January compared to December 2012 driven by increases in the groups of Transport by 1.61 per cent; housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels by 1.46 per cent; recreation and culture by 1.44 per cent; restaurants and hotels by 0.66 per cent; health by 0.83 per cent; furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance by 0.66 per cent and alcoholic beverages and tobacco by 0.47 per cent.

A report by Dubai Statistics Centre for January noted the decreases in prices of the groups of clothing and footwear by 1.47 per cent; food and non-alcoholic beverages by 1.02 per cent, communication by 0.86 per cent; miscellaneous goods and services by 0.70 per cent.

Deflation rate recorded amounted to 1.71 per cent compared to 2011, due to a decrease in the prices of housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels group by 6.19 per cent; clothing and footwear group by 1.32 per cent; restaurants and hotels group by 0.24 per cent; and communication group by 0.14 per cent.

On the other hand, the inflation rate for food and non-alcoholic beverages group increased by 3.24 per cent; alcoholic beverages and tobacco group by 3.00 per cent; education group by 2.85 per cent; transport group by 1.34 per cent; furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance group by 1.30 per cent; miscellaneous goods and services group by 0.59 per cent; health group by 0.20 per cent; and an increase by 0.09 per cent for recreations and culture group.
